Michael J. Greenwood Sr., 59, of Scranton passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, June 13, 2014, after a long battle with illness. His wife of 28 years is the former Rosemary Szymanski Greenwood.
Born and raised in North Scranton on Sept. 13, 1954, he was the son of the late Francis and Marie Reilly Greenwood. He was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish and a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. He was a past member of Plumber's Local Union #90 and present member of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local #524.
He was passionate about his trade, and will be remembered for the meticulous work he has done and his creativity. He also loved woodworking, working in his yard and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by five children, Lauren and future son-in-law, Jonathan Kalasinski, Clarks Summit; Michael, Matthew, Linsdey and Shawn, all at home; granddaughter, Ava Rose, who was Pa's pride and joy; five brothers, Jack and wife, Anne Marie; Gerard, Robert, Thomas and wife, Cheryl; and Edward, all of Scranton; a sister, Betty Ann Fintzy and husband, Stanley, New Jersey; an aunt, Betty Walsh, New Jersey; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his uncle, Joseph Reilly; and aunt, Ann Reilly.
The funeral will be conducted Thursday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St., Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
