Morton Barry Aronson

Morton Barry Aronson, age 84, of Towanda, Pa., passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Robert Packer Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Barry was born in Scranton, Pa., the son of Jacob and Sophie Aronson. He attended Wyalusing High School until his senior year when he graduated from GAR High School in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. After graduating high school, he attended Bucknell Junior College in Wilkes-Barre. He left college at the request of his family to work in the family business, Towanda Iron and Metal Co. Barry was an active member in the B'nai B'rith Organization. Barry married his wife Ruth in 1950, and in 1952, he served our country during the Korean War.

A vivid and consummate storyteller, Barry never missed a chance to capture our attention with a tale or two. His joy for the stage led him to roles like Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof" or behind the wood and brass of his instruments to feed us his beloved Jazz and sing-song music. He radiated love to those who only knew him for a minute or more and to all who laughed with him for a lifetime. As an enthusiastic teacher, even a humble pastor of sorts, Barry never missed the opportunity to pass down his wise words and esteemed knowledge. At the Synagogue, he taught the Hebrew faith and observed each holiday with religious pride. From a young age, Barry was an astute businessman, a visionary whose principled and trustworthy demeanor drove him to success and fostered continuous friendships.

His most valuable keepsake was never a trinket or a treat; he was always focused on a family who will forever remain his biggest fans, his backup choir, and most desired audience.

The shuffling feet of a father, grandfather and great-grandfather, a napkin tucked firmly into the collar of a shirt that caught many tastes or his tank that stood proud in the town's center are only a few of many memories branded into the minds of Barry's kin. A rare commodity, breathe of fresh air, his presence was immense and body overflowing with every piece of life around him — he didn't just light up rooms, Barry lit up the world for all of us.

Morton Barry Aronson was the strong arm of an honored family who never dared to eat his famous knuckle sandwich.

Barry is survived by his wife, Ruth; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Leslie Aronson of Gilford, N.H.; Brad and Patti Aronson of Towanda, Pa.; and daughter, Sandra and Carolyn of Vancouver, British Columbia; grandchildren, Scott and Doria Aronson; Brooke and Bradley McCreedy; Jared Aronson, Seth Aronson, Avi Aronson, Sydney Aronson, Joshua Aronson and fiancée, Caroline Farinelli; Michelle Aronson and Jasmine Quirt; great-grandchildren, Nico and Rocco Aronson; Jack, Griffin and Grace McCreedy.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at 3 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa., followed by interment at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Towanda, Pa.
