Ralph P. Carey, attorney, 89, of South Abington Twp., formerly of Old Forge, died Thursday at home. He is survived by his beloved wife, Teresa (Terry) P. Carey.
Born in Old Forge, son of the late Thomas and Lena Perfilio Carey, he was a graduate of Old Forge High School, Wilkes College and Bucknell University. He graduated from Dickinson School of Law, Carlisle, in 1951, and was admitted to the practice of law in Lackawanna County on Dec. 14, 1951.
Ralph served in the Army
during World War II
in the European theater of operations, and was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Army Reserve. He served as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1968. He was solicitor of Old Forge Borough and South Abington Twp., hearing examiner for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, member of the National Panel of Arbitrators, American Arbitration Association and Scranton Chamber of Commerce, president of Scranton Junior Chamber of Commerce, Old Forge Lions Club, Old Forge Little League Association and Lackawanna County Columbus Day Association, past exalted ruler of Scranton Lodge of Elks, county chairman of Lackawanna American Cancer Crusade, director of Lackawanna United Fund and United Cerebral Palsy of Lackawanna County, counselor of Boy Scouts of America and past president of the Lackawanna Bar Association. He was also parishioner of Our Lady of the Snows Church, Clarks Summit.
Also surviving are two sons, Thomas Ralph and Ralph Patrick.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Maria Carey Beechler.
Private funeral services and viewing will be conducted at the convenience of the family under the direction of the Victor M. Ferri Funeral Home, Robert J. Gillette, Funeral Director, 522 Fallon St., Old Forge. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Oram Street, Scranton.
