Regina M. Burke

Regina M. "Jean" Burke, 82, a resident of St. Mary's Villa, Elmhurst, died Tuesday morning at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore, after an illness. She was the widow of Walter R. Burke, who died in 1979.

Born in Olyphant, daughter of the late Peter and Helen McGarry Ward, she was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School in Olyphant and a former member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Throop. Before retirement, she worked at Kmart and Mid-Valley Hospital in Peckville.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed being a homemaker and spending time with her family and friends.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Mary's Villa, Moses Taylor Hospital and Hospice Community Care for the wonderful care and support during this difficult time.

She is survived by three daughters, Diane Havenstrite and husband, Glenn, Dickson City; Sharon Bichi and husband, Mark, Jessup; and Jeanie Vispi and husband, Michael, Jessup; five grandchildren, Jason Burke, Ryan and Tara Bichi, Kristen Nagurney; and Dr. Nicole and husband, Dr. Jeff Gesell.

She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Kyle Bichi; four brothers, James, Peter, John and Robert Ward; and two sisters, Betty Buttacci and Helen Ward; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, 5 to 7 p.m., at the John J. Turko & Sons Funeral Home, 404 Susquehanna Ave., Olyphant, with a funeral service at 6:30 by Monsignor Michael J. Delaney. Interment, St. Patrick's Cemetery, Blakely, will be private and at the convenience of the family.
