Richard J. Brennan

Richard J. Brennan, 84, of Carbondale, died Thursday at Geisinger Community Medical Center. His wife of 63 years is the former Jane Pearce.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Paul and Louise Collins Brennan, he was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. A graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, he was employed by the Delaware & Hudson Railroad and was a carpenter and cabinetmaker with Triangle Pacific Cabinet Co., Carbondale, until his retirement. He was also associated with his sons in the operation of their business, Brennan's Garage, Carbondale.

In his younger days, he was an accomplished blue ribbon-winning equestrian in various competitions. He loved thoroughbred horses and racing, and he owned and cared for many horses throughout his life. A quiet and moral gentleman, he was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was also very proud of his Irish heritage and his culinary treats, that included his special ingredient, a hoot of Jameson.

Also surviving are three sons, Timothy and wife, Lois; Michael; and Patrick and wife, Joanne, all of Carbondale; three daughters, Louise Gigliotti and husband, John, Las Vegas; Richelle Stachura and husband, Henry, Jermyn; and Erin Rupp and husband, Don, Carbondale; a sister, Patricia Cobb, Malvern; a brother, Frank Brennan, Alexandria, Va.; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Brennan Burke; a brother-in-law, George Cobb; and a daughter-in-law, Gloria Brennan.

The funeral will be Monday from the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home Inc., 55 Lincoln Ave., Carbondale, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Interment will be private in St. Rose Cemetery, Carbondale.
