Rita McLain

Rita McLain of Scranton passed away on May 3 at Moses Taylor Hospital. She was the widow of James Nelson McLain.

Born Sept. 19, 1930, daughter of the late Andrew and Stella Klevinsky, she was a graduate of North Scranton Junior High School and attended Central High School.

Rita was a kind and generous person. She always put others before herself. No matter what was going on in her life she always had a smile. She was a loving mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She truly was loved by everyone who knew her.

Rita had a love for all animals. She fed the birds and squirrels every day. She especially loved cats. She rescued and found homes for many. Her greatest passion was playing poker at the Tauras Club with her five friends, especially Tom Henry.

Before her retirement, she was employed by Cathy Gavin of Stirna's Restaurant. They were best friends right from the start. Who could ever forget her funny, unique costumes she showed up with at Stirna's Halloween parties? In her earlier years, she was a sales representative for Home Interiors. She was very talented with decorating and flower arrangements.

She is survived by a son, James B. McLain and wife, Pat; a daughter, Janis McLain Klassner; four granddaughters, Jill, Christine, Melissa and Kate; and four great-grandchildren, Sloan, Brian, Ella and James.

She was also preceded in death by two grandsons, P.J. and Jeff Klassner, whom she loved dearly.

The family would like to thank Dr. Barry Minora for the kindness and care he showed her, and the doctors and nurses at Moses Taylor Hospital, for their care and compassion while she was in the ICU and on the third and fourth floors.

The funeral will be Wednesday from the Edward Knight O'Donnell Funeral Home, 323 William St., Scranton, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday from 8 a.m. until Mass time at the funeral home.
