Robert Stanvitch Sr., 52, of Moscow, and formerly of Scranton, died Thursday at the VA Medical Center, Plains Twp., after an illness.
Born in Scranton, son of Sharon McNamara Stanvitch and the late Joseph Stanvitch Jr., Robert was a graduate of Bishop Hannan High School. He honorably served our country as a member of the Navy. He was a former member of St. Patrick's Church in West Scranton. An avid baseball fan, he loved the New York Yankees. A loving son, father, brother and grandfather, he will be dearly missed by those who loved him.
He is also survived by his son, Robert Stanvitch Jr., Beaufort, S.C.; sisters, Patricia Stanvitch Dougherty and husband, Jim; and Lisa Stanvitch and partner, Jennifer Derr, all of Scranton; three grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Peter and Joseph Stanvitch III; and grandparents, John and Clare McNamara, and Joseph and Leona Stanvitch.
His family would like to thank the hospice staff of the VA Medical Center and dear friend, Hilda Balinas, for the special care given to him during his illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, Oram Street, Scranton, by the Rev. Stephen Krawontka, associate pastor. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Friends may call at the church from 10:30 until Mass. Arrangements are under the care of the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton.
