Ruth Carrick, 98, of Scranton, died Monday, Oct. 7, surrounded by her family at Mountain View Care Center. She was the widow of George Carrick, who died in 1978. They were married 42 years.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Ernest and Ellen Reese Baumgartner, Mrs. Carrick was a longtime member of Embury United Methodist Church, where she served on the Women's Society and the Florence Evans Bible class. She was educated in Scranton public schools and was a graduate of Central High School.
Mrs. Carrick had a strong faith and cherished her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She'll be long remembered for her caring ways by all of those who loved her. Mrs. Carrick enjoyed baking and often shared her goods with family and friends. She had a great love for the holidays, especially Christmas, when she would spoil her children and grandchildren with many gifts.
The family would like to thank the staff of Mountain View Care Center and Traditional Care Home Health and Hospice for the kind and compassionate care that was given to Mrs. Carrick and her family.
Surviving are one son, Richard Carrick and wife, Margaret, Clarks Summit; one daughter, Margaret Grabowski and husband, Robert, Archbald; one sister, Irene Engler, Marcy, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Mary Ellen, Ruth Ann, Christine, Suzanne, Andrea, Mari, Casey and Ricky; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by one son, George Carrick; one daughter, Ruth Gnall; one great-granddaughter, Penelope Ann Carrick; one sister, Doris Bidwell; and four brothers, Ernest, Willard, Arthur and Elmer Baumgartner.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Davies and Jones Funeral Chapel, 135 S. Main Ave., with services by the Rev. Judith Schmitt. Interment, Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp.
