Sophie T. Pozarzecki Kasuba, 88, of Scranton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday in Mountain View Care Center. She was the widow of Eugene "Nick" Kasuba, who died May 18, 1999.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Stanley and Josephine Skocienski Pozarzecki, she was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Church, educated in Scranton public schools and a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, class of 1942. Sophie and her husband, Nick, operated Kasuba's Grocery Store, which was a true mom-and-pop operation in West Scranton for more than 40 years.
Surviving are a daughter, Evelyn Connolly and husband, Dr. Joseph W. Connolly, Clarks Summit; a son, Gene Kasuba and wife, June, Taylor; three grandchildren, Allison Zaluski and husband, Christopher; Dr. Joseph P. Connolly and wife, Susan; and Dr. Sean Connolly and wife, Tarah; six great-grandchildren, Abigail, Joshua and Anna Connolly; Holly Zaluski, Nicholas and Emma Connolly; three sisters, Sister M. Carmencita, Bernadine Franciscan Sisters, Reading; Helen Wanda, Edison, N.J.; and Florence Konschnick, Hollywood, Fla.; nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be Saturday at 9 a.m. from the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann's St., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in SS. Peter & Paul Church, West Locust Street, Scranton. Interment, parish cemetery, Taylor.
