Tess Gruscavage, 91, of Scranton, died Friday at the Jewish Home of Eastern Pa. She was the widow of Frank Gruscavage, who died 2003. The couple was married for 55 years.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Jon and Mary Yarmol Patzwa. She was educated in Scranton schools and worked in the dry cleaning business before retirement.
She was a loving and supporting wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family, who were most important to her, and a caregiver to them all her life. She was a wonderful baker, quilter and gardener. She was a former member of St. Stanislaus R.C. Church and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She worked diligently at fundraising projects to support her church. She was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Jewish Home and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the exceptional care she received during her illness.
Surviving are a daughter, Anne Sample, Scranton; a son, Frank Gruscavage and wife, Patricia, Mountaintop; three grandchildren, Jennifer Pachick and husband, Ray, Huntersville, N.C.; Dan Gruscavage and wife, Abbie, Cochranville; and David Sample and wife, Elizabeth, Dunmore; five great-grandchildren, Makenzie and Austin Pachick; Charlie and Clara Gruscavage; and Conner Sample; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Oltorik and Stella Patsco; and a brother, Walter Patzwa.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St., Scranton. Interment will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Morgan Highway, Scranton.
