Thomas P. Doherty of North Scranton died Saturday morning at the Allied Skilled Nursing Facility. He and his wife, the former Estelle Kingdom, celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary on Feb. 26.
Born in Scranton, son of Mary "Mame" Hennehan Doherty of Brunswick, Ga., and the late Joseph Doherty, he was a graduate of Holy Rosary grade school and high school, and he also attended East Stroudsburg University. He was a master carpenter, formerly working from the Philadelphia Union Local 1595, and most recently working from the Scranton Union Local 645.
He was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish of North Scranton, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Carpenters Union, and played guitar for the Bell Mountain Blues Band for many years.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and brother who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid reader and loved taking his pet dog, Zeus, for walks. He was a kind and friendly person with lots of charm and often donated his time playing his guitar at various fundraisers throughout the area. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Also surviving are two daughters, Tracy Doherty and companion, Roland, Madisonville; and Sara Baldinucci and husband, Brian, Scranton; a son, Sean P. Doherty and companion, Lauren, Dunmore; a brother, Joseph, Clarks Summit; a sister, Ann Kelly and husband, Robert, Brunswick, Ga.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 9:30 a.m. in Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St., North Scranton. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
