Thomas P. McLain

Thomas P. McLain, 78, of the Minooka section of Scranton, died Sunday after an illness. He and his wife, the former D'Anne Diskin, would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Lacey McLain and was a member of Divine Mercy Parish in Minooka. A graduate of South Catholic High School, he was a firefighter for the city of Scranton for 25 years. A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of VFW Post 8335 in Avoca, the American Legion Post 558, Plains, and Post 568, Minooka, and the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 60.

Tom was a deeply loving and devoted husband, brother, uncle and friend. A very gentle and soft-spoken man with a great sense of humor, he loved his family and his Yorkshire terriers, Shamrock 1, Shamrock 2 and Shamrock 3. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Also surviving are two sisters, Marie Donachie, Willow Grove; and Dorothy Jones, Scranton; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Peggy McLain King.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Divine Mercy Parish at St. Joseph's Church, 312 Davis St., Minooka, celebrated by the Rev. Francis Pauselli, pastor. Interment, St. Mary of Czestochowa Cemetery, Greenwood section of Moosic.

Friends may call Wednesday, 4 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. The family requests that those attending the funeral on Thursday proceed directly to the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen, 500 Penn Ave., Scranton, PA 18503.
