Veronica Alice Edwards

Veronica Alice Edwards, 91, of Dunmore, formerly of South Scranton, died Monday morning at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore, after an illness. Her husband of 46 years, Richard "Ike" Edwards, died in 2000.

Born and raised in the Sport Hill section of Dunmore, daughter of the late Michael and Mary Wasilyak Juba, she was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Parish in South Scranton. A graduate of Dunmore High School, class of 1939, Alice worked at Saquoit Silk Mill until her retirement.

Alice was a jolly soul who loved everyone and would light up the room with her smile and kind ways. She loved Irish music and will always be fondly remembered by all of her family and friends.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Thomas Minora and his staff, as well as the staff and management of Celtic Healthcare and her caregivers, Dolores Finn and Michelle Haggerty.

Surviving are a sister, Suzanne Potash, Scranton; nephews Thomas Garvey and wife, Barbara, Dunmore; and John Garvey, who was her caregiver, also of Dunmore; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was also preceded in death by seven brothers, John, Michael, George, Charles, Peter and infants Adam and Paul; and five sisters, Mary Fetsko, Anna Prebish, Helen Marcinko, Julia Stone and Margaret Garvey.

Family and friends are invited to Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 630 Genet St., to be celebrated by the Rev. Scott Sterowski, pastor. Interment will be private at St. Michael's Byzantine Cemetery, Dunmore.
