Veronica Smargiassi

Veronica Smargiassi, 95, of Eynon, died Wednesday afternoon at the Laurels in Sturges. She was the wife of Julius "Chick" Smargiassi, who died Oct. 17, 1977.

She was born in Sturges on Aug. 14, 1917, the daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Drutherosky. She was a lifelong Eynon resident and a member of Our Lady of Vilna Church, Eynon.

She was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who will be dearly missed.

The family would like to send a special thanks to SouthernCare Hospice and Caregivers of America, especially Melissa McLaughlin.

Surviving are a son, Julius Jr. and wife, Karen, Eynon; three daughters, Patricia Vinciguerra and husband, Carmen, Jessup; Judith Saldi and husband, Larry, Eynon; and Pamela Smargiassi, at home, who was her caregiver until the end; a sister, Josephine Wilkes, Sturges; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, John Drutherosky; George, Michael and Edward Baron; and two sisters, Anna Zenzel and Rose Marie Baron Dorish.

The funeral service will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place at St. Francis Cemetery, Eynon.
