Virginia Notz Sabatelle, 74, formerly of Roaring Brook Twp., died July 19 at Mount Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Alexandria, Va. She was the widow of Salvatore J. Sabatelle, executive chef and former owner of Billy's Restaurant in Dunmore, who died in 2000.
Born in Scranton, Virginia was the daughter of the late Dr. Francis (Frank) P. Notz and Cathryne Q. Notz. She graduated from Scranton Central High School and received her bachelor's degree in nutrition and dietetics from Marywood College. After an internship in New York City, she worked at Mercy Hospital in Scranton as a dietitian and retired as the head dietitian after 30 years.
She was an avid reader, and enjoyed crossword puzzles, cooking and entertaining family at her home. Family was very important to her, and her nieces and nephews were a source of great pride and joy. Pool parties, cookouts, fondue parties, homemade ice cream, special birthday cakes and of course the Christmas cookies are some of the wonderful memories she leaves her family.
Surviving are a sister, Miriam Bradican and husband, Paul, Bluffton, S.C.; a brother, Joseph P. Notz and wife, Ellen, Seminole, Fla.; sister-in-law, Belinda M. Notz, Fairfax, Va.; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Capt. Frank P. Notz (retired from the Navy), in 1999.
The funeral will be Tuesday with Mass at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Catherine of Siena, Moscow. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Friends may call Tuesday at the church from 9 until the time of Mass.
