William Angelo Gabello

William Angelo Gabello, 90, of Old Forge, died Thursday at his home. His wife of 54 years, the former Madelyn M. Krawczyk, died in 2003.

Born Dec. 15, 1922, in Old Forge, son of the late Fiore and Anna Perry Gabello, he attended Old Forge High School. He subsequently joined the Army and served in the European theater until the end of World War II. Following his discharge from the Army, he attended the University of Scranton, where he graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1949. Upon graduation from the University of Scranton, he worked for 32 years at the IRS, retiring as district director's representative. After his retirement from the IRS, he was a professor of accounting at his alma mater, the University of Scranton, for 12 years, retiring in 1995. He was a parishioner of Prince of Peace Parish, Old Forge, and was past president of its Holy Name Society.

Surviving are his children, Christine Rafalko and husband, Richard, Cherry Hill, N.J.; William Gabello, Little Rock, Ark.; David Gabello and wife, Oksana, Great Falls, Va.; and Jeffrey Gabello and wife, Wendy, Ridgefield, Conn.; and three grandchildren, Dane Rafalko, Sean and Liam Gabello.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Michael; two brothers, James and Carmen; and a sister, Arlene O'Malley.

The funeral will be Monday at noon from the Victor M. Ferri Funeral Home, 522 Fallon St., Old Forge, with Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 in Prince of Peace Parish at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, West Grace and Lawrence streets, Old Forge. Interment services with military honors will follow in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Scranton.
