William Begey, 88, of Bowie, Md., formerly of Olyphant, died Saturday afternoon at home surrounded by his family. His late wife was the former Genevieve Rizzo.
Born in Dickson City, son of the late Alexander and Olga Tomasky Begey, he was a graduate of Blakely High School, class of 1944, and a graduate of Washington State University. He honorably served his country during World War II
with the Army, and was the recipient of the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
He is survived by two daughters, Andrea Begey, Bowie, Md.; and Marybeth Baden and husband, David, Riva, Md.; and one son, Paul Begey, Washington, D.C.;
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul; and a sister, Barbara.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the John J. Turko & Sons Funeral Home, 404 Susquehanna Ave., Olyphant, with Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in SS. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, River Street, Olyphant, to be celebrated by the Rev. Nestor Iwasiw, pastor. Interment with military honors will be in St. Cyril's Cemetery,
Friends may visit Tuesday from 5:30 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A Parastas service will be at 6 p.m.
