William J. Griffiths, 79, of Whitehall, Pa., passed away peacefully Monday at St. Mary's Villa.
Born In Jessup, Pa., he was the son of the late Harold and Florence Smith Griffiths. He was a 1952 graduate of Jessup High School and earned an associate's degree in carpentry from Johnson College in 1955. He was an Army
veteran, serving in the 709th Company Military Police stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. Before retirement, he was a lifelong employee of Conrail as a railroad engineer. He loved every day of his career. He previously served as a fireman
and was a lifetime member of the Jessup Hose Company No. 1.
Bill was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend to so many who had the pleasure of spending time with him and his terrific sense of humor. He looked forward to traveling to Florida to vacation with friends every winter as well as reunions with classmates and his Army buddies. His greatest pride and joy was caring for his community vegetable garden plot each summer.
Thank you to the staff of VNA Hospice and St. Mary's Villa, especially Liz, Tiffany and Terry for taking care of Uncle Bill like family.
He is survived by a sister, Mary Kay Okavage; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold; and sister, Nancy Luciani.
A memorial Mass led by Father William Campbell will be held Saturday, June 22 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Eulalia's Church, 214 Blue Shutters Road, Elmhurst Twp., Pa. Friends may call directly at the church from 9:30 a.m. until Mass time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made at any Wells Fargo Bank branch to the William Griffiths Lehigh Community Garden Plot Memorial Fund.
