William R. Novitsky of Fredericksburg, Va., died April 23.
Born in Syracuse, N.Y., son of the Late Julia and William Novitsky, he was raised in Scott Twp. and graduated from Penn State as a mechanical engineer. He worked extensively in the aerospace industry, serving as a reliability engineer on the Apollo Lunar Landing Program, numerous naval air systems command weapons programs and on several classified space satellite programs. He retired from Lockheed Martin Co. in September 1994 and moved to the Frederickburg area in 1995. He worked at the Fredericksburg Hardware Store, Geico and Baker's Appliance Repair Shop until his final retirement in 2000.
Surviving are his wife, Mernia Novitsky; two daughters, Kathryn Driggers, Montclair, Va.; and Julia Griffin and husband, Lindsey, Fredericksburg; a son, William Novitsky and wife, Lisa, Woodbridge, Va.; two brothers, David Novitsky and wife, Oksana, Philadelphia; and Thomas Novitsky and wife, Fran, Scott Twp.; and six grandchildren, Kyle, Emily, Shaw, Virginia, Caroline and Sophie.
Funeral services were held April 28 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Fredericksburg.
