Yola Catalano, 94, of South Scranton, passed on quietly into the hands of God on Good Friday after a brief stay in hospice. She was the wife of Hugo Catalano, who preceded her in death in 1991.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anita Salvatore Lilli and was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Parish, South Scranton. She attended Scranton Technical High School, and became an accomplished seamstress, working in the garment industry before raising her sons. She also had a long career in business as store manager of the first GNC store in Scranton and as a department manager at Kmart in Moosic.
Yola was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and sister.
She is survived by her sons, Sal Catalano and wife Ruth, Scranton; and Robert Catalano and wife Linda Danol Catalano, Garden City, Mich.; grandchildren, Christine Mackie and husband, Drew; Wendy Catalano Schraner and husband, Scott; Heather Catalano Chorba and husband, Matt; and Christopher Catalano; three great-grandchildren, Erika Mackie, Samantha Schraner and Estella Lucille Chorba; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Rena Mariani and Louise Lilli; and a brother, Joseph Lilli.
The funeral will be Tuesday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 630 Genet St., South Scranton, celebrated by the Rev. Scott Sterowski, pastor. Entombment, Italian American Cemetery Mausoleum.
