Stanley J. Kakareka Jr.

Stanley J. Kakareka Jr., 73, of Elmhurst, died Friday at Regional Hospital of Scranton after a long illness. He and his wife, the former Marianne Stachnick, celebrated 48 years of marriage on August 1.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Stanley J. Sr. and Helen LeKarz Kakareka, Stanley was a graduate of Scranton Central High School, class of 1956. He was a United States Army veteran, SPC 4C. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at Eugene Jacobs Clothing, was a manager at both Robert Hall Clothes and Leslie Fay. He was in sales at Abington Car Complex, MetLife and Scranton Dodge. He was a member of the Thursday Night Misfits Bowling League and served as league president for more than 10 years. He was also a member of St. Eulalia's Church, Roaring Brook Twp., and volunteered his time there as well.

Stanley was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle who enjoyed bowling, bird watching and gardening. He was an avid traveler who looked forward to his next adventure with his loving wife and the St. Eulalia's Travelers Group. He most enjoyed his time spent with his family and was very involved in all their activities and never missed an event they participated in. Stanley was also a loyal Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan. He also loved to watch Penn State football whenever he could.

Also surviving are three sons, David and wife, Tina, Elmhurst; Charles and wife, Kim, Covington Twp.; and Robert and wife, Amanda, Madison Twp.; two daughters, Deborah, Elmhurst; and Rebecca Gavin and husband, William, Scranton; seven grandchildren, Courtney, Christopher, Michael, Jacque and Kaden Kakareka, Thomas and Cole Gavin; two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Samuel Thomas III; one brother, William and wife, Jean, State College; a sister-in-law, Barbara Powell and husband, Richard, Green Valley, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Eulalia's Church, 214 Blue Shutters Road, Roaring Brook Twp., by Monsignor John W. Jordan and the Rev. John J. Kilpatrick. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
