Margaret M. Lavelle

Margaret Mary Lavelle, 82, of Scranton and formerly of Philadelphia, died Sunday June 23, 2013, surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Lavelle.

Born April 25, 1931 in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Dr. Joseph M. and Kathryn McManus Endres, Margaret was a 1949 graduate of West Catholic High School and a 1954 graduate of St. Agnes School of Nursing.

Margaret, who many knew as "Margie," enjoyed crocheting and needlepoint and was an avid reader. She raised her six children in the Green Ridge section of Scranton and was a member of St. Paul's Parish. Margie worked as a Registered Nurse for Mercy Hospital and Green Ridge Nursing Home. She will be remembered for her dry sense of humor and unrelenting nature. Margie overcame many health concerns with a strong sense of persistence that she used to fight with until the end.

Mrs. Lavelle is survived her six children, Margaret Mary Geueke and husband, James, Lansdale; Kathleen E. Stella and husband, Joseph, Scranton; Michele Mandarano and husband, John, Scranton; William Lavelle and wife, Linda, Gouldsboro; Colleen Arcuri and husband, Anthony, Moscow; and Anna Foytack and husband, Jason, State College; by her brother, John Endres, Philadelphia; twenty-two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her four sisters, Mary Walsh, Kathryn Heacock, Helen Endres and Regina Melchiorre; her brother, Joseph Endres; and her three grandchildren, Matthew Lavelle Geueke, Kaitlin Elizabeth Foytack and Patrick Charles Foytack.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Mountain View Nursing Home for the care and compassion extended to her during her stay.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Albert P. O'Donnell Funeral Home, 2025 Green Ridge Street, Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Church, 1510 Penn Avenue, Scranton. Friends may call Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the O'Donnell Funeral Home. All those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church on Saturday. Interment will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.
