Alyn Scheatzle Obituary
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Clarks Summit United Methodist Church, 1310 Morgan Highway. Interment with military honors will follow in the Clarks Green Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will take place in the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen, 500 Penn Ave., Scranton, PA 18503, and/or to the Friends of the Poor, 2300 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509.
Arrangements have been entrusted to and are under the care of the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton.

I am very sorry for your loss. My grandmother was Jennie Scheatzle Hallstead, a sister to Beatrice. Once years ago, Alyn invited us to his home to talk about family history. He will be missed.

So sorry to hear of the loss of such a great man ! I got to know Al when I worked for Schiff's. He was so kind and caring and made me feel like part of a true family while employed in the store. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him. My prayers are with his family !

I worked for Al more than a decade ago. He was ahead of his class when you speak of business professionals. I now live in Florida the past thirteen years,but Al's name is often mentioned when you talk about how he ran his operation.Some people leave an impression and Al is one those. My condolences to your entire family. Al was an angel on earth carrying the message of unconditional love. He truly cared for people by providing support to those in need. I will never forget the kindness he showed to the children of a family in need. I am sure that all who knew him have a similar story about him. We loved Al! He led us on missions to Honduras and Mississippi to build and provide medical care and much more to the financially neediest. Al would bring family and friends with him and work himself and us hard. He would share his good humor and pirate smile and make the work fun. He would put his arm around us and you just felt the love of a good dad/uncle/grandpa/friend; even if you just met him. I thank God for his good life and pray now for his wonderful family.

Dear Eleanor, Karen, Donna, Elaine, and Nicki. I am very sorry to hear of Al's death. I have many fond memories of him as a child growing up on Hollister Avenue. I remember him as a kind man and a good friend to my dad. I hope you can find comfort in knowing he is at peace and hanging out with my dad again. I still have the silver dollar he gave me when I received my first Communion when I was in second grade. I am 60 now so I hope that tells you how much I treasured it and plan to pass it on to my daughter one day with a note that explains where I received it and instructions to pass it on through her family. Thinking of you all during this difficult time and so grateful to have known Al. The people who are kind to children live in memories forever.

Al was a wonderful human being who thought of us all, at Schiff's, as family! Always thinking of how to help others.....his legacy will live on!! I am personally grateful to have known him. Al was a special person. I'll always remember what a good and decent person he was. I worked for him at Schiff's, and I also worked for him at his home, mowing his lawn and helping with his rose garden. I know he loved his life and lived it to the fullest.
