Monica Patel Obituary
She was a third-grader at her beloved school, William Prescott Elementary in the Scranton School District. Monica was an active member of Hickory Street Girl Scouts in South Scranton and Scranton Dance Center. Princess Monica loved travel, dancing in recitals, dressing up like a princess, and being kind to all around her. Everyone that met Monica was better off for having known her. She found joy in the simplest things in life.
Also surviving are her maternal grandparents, Chandrakant and Madhuben Patel, her paternal grandparents, Manher Patel and Bhagavati Patel, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Special thanks to everyone who helped throughout Monica's journey, including Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dr. Jean Belasco, Dr. Stan Blondek and all of our friends and family for their true love, devotion and unconditional support throughout Monica's multiple surgeries, multiple rounds of chemotherapy, and multiple sequences of radiation treatments at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Albert P. O'Donnell Funeral Home, 2025 Green Ridge St., Dunmore. Private funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cancertacular Inc., P.O. Box 52, Archbald, PA 18403 and Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House, 3925 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104.

Your daughter's smile has touched the hearts of those, like myself, who don't know you personally, but have followed Monica's story thanks to The Times coverage. Monica was a joy to see and care for. She was always smiling and so bubbly. She never complained and showed care for everyone around her. She was so selfless. What an amazing girl!!! My deepest sympathy to you. I can imagine your pain but not the fullest extent. I can imagine the pain your little girl endured but not understand why.
