When Lauren first asked to me to write something for Piper, Nathans daughter I had no idea what to write. How do I write something to a stranger about someone I knew so well, but so long ag? I decided I would share some stories and write about what I learned from Nathan over the years we spent together.

So to you Piper,
Your Dad and I had a casual friendship over the years but I had not spoken to him on a regular basis in over 10yrs. We were boyfriend and girlfriend for 4 years, from June of 1998 to April of 2001. In that time we lived in VT(where I am from) PA and Georgia. We raised a rottweiler dog together, Grisman until our relationship ended.

I remember your Dad's love of music. He loved the Grateful Dead the most, but really enjoyed all kinds of music. We saw quite a few concerts together, he loved to go see live music and make some of his own. One song I have great memories of him playing is Stella Blue by The Grateful Dead, I find it only appropriate I found the motivation to write this on Jerry Garcia's birthday. He would enjoy sitting around a fire playing the guitar or banging on a hand drum with friends. You could say we were young hippies!

He was always excited about taking adventures and risks. I learned how to play poker from your Grandpa Brownell and your Dad. To this day he is still the only person to have ever hitch hiked for me. He hitched from PA to VT where I was going to college, I would not recommend this but it was super sweet and romantic at the time. He would do anything for those he cared about. I learned alot about friendship from him. Your Dad loved to have a good time!! He was the life of the party. He loved to dance and socialize and play games. He is definitely one of the most fun people I have ever met. He had this energy about him, everybody wanted to be near him, you wanted to be the reason he was showing off that glowing, beautiful smile.

I also learned some small things that I still do to this day. For example, how to hit a golf ball. Keep all the pot handles on the stove turned in, do not leave them sticking out. When it comes to carrying money always keep the small bills on the outside, and when going to buy new shoes, if you have the money, spend it. It will be worth it. I still by the exact same shoes he told me to buy in 1998 every time I need new ones because they are so great!

One thing your Grandpa Brownell used to tell me "Don't think/wonder about what other people are doing, let them think/wonder about what you are doing" I think your Dad lived by this saying too!

Sending love and light

U always flew so high, now you've finally left the ground.

So long, I'll see you down that long dark river
Floating on that lightning in the sky
I'm lucky, lucky enough to have heard you sing your song

So long, Nathan, so long.

Nate when you were here i can see piper's face light up. I love the way she would always say "Daddy's home". in the sweetest voice that she has.

The day i found out that you were gone tore my heart in to two because i knew there would be no more you. I wouldn't be able to see that smirk, smile or laugh again until the heaven gates let me in.

I tell my self i will watch over piper even when days get tough. keep my chin up and just smile until i get to meet you again up in the heaven gates above will let me in.

Well i will keep your memory alive and let piper know how much of a sweet daddy/man you really were. You had the perfect personality out there that one else could of had, but also the smirk and smile were the best and now we lay that down to rest. but i will always forget the rest and remember the best.

I will always go by this saying that i made it is Dream...Smile...Nate and it means Dream big, Smile alot and You my bro i couldn't think of any better saying and then it hit me. You would always dream big, smile alot and i would always call you nate so i went with this.

Love you forever and always and will never stop thinking of you no matter what.

I wanted to make sure that I could see the wonderful things that people wrote about you, Nathan. I wanted to be able to print them for our sweet daughter, Piper. At least now...this guest book is here for as long as the internet will be around.

One day, In heaven...we will kiss, laugh and dance again! Please, Oh Please, My Angel...look after Piper and I, ok? I need you more than ever right now....

I miss you terribly, Muttball...I miss your laugh, your love of things. Your voice. Your kisses. Your skin. The way you held our daughter and talked to her...the way she lit up when she saw her Daddy. I was blessed with at least this amount of time on Earth with you.

Love Always and Forever,

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Someone new has entered
our eternal home above.
The heavenly gate has opened wide
to welcome the one you love.
We cannot help the tears that fall-
our hearts need time to grieve
when earthly life has ended
and a loved one has to leave.
Yet even in the saddest time,
we know our Savior lives,
and we can trust completely
in the promise that he gives.
That in a glad reunion with the Lord,
our loved ones wait
to welcome us in joy
with no more tears
beyond the gate!

May God Bless You All.

When someone we love passes away,
We ache, but we go on;
Our dear departed would want us to heal,
After they are gone.

Grief is a normal way to mend
The anguish and pain in our hearts;
We need time to remember and time to mourn,
Before the recovery starts.

Let's draw together to recuperate,
As we go through this period of sorrow;
Let's help each other, with tender care
To find a brighter tomorrow.
