Barbara Casella Obituary

Barbara Ann Casella, 50, of Spring Brook Twp., and formerly of Old Forge, died tragically Wednesday evening in an automobile accident on Interstate 380 in Moscow. She is survived by her husband, Harley Patterson. Wed on June 27, 1998, the couple was married for 15 years.

Born on Oct. 21, 1962, and raised in Old Forge, Barbara was the daughter of the late Vincent and Mary Zenobi Casella. A graduate of Old Forge High School, class of 1980, she earned her dental hygiene degree three years later from Luzerne County Community College. Since 1986, she was employed as a dental hygienist for Dr. Michele Gripp of Olyphant.

Barbara was a wonderful, warm-hearted, funny and beautiful person, inside and out, and anyone who knew her can attest to that. If you needed her last dollar more than she did, it was yours. Her door was always open to anyone. Nine years ago, when her husband's grandchildren lost their mother, she didn't even think twice about taking them in and raising them as her own — that was quintessential Barbara. She loved dogs and missed her pups, Kato and Jackson, until the very end. She missed her mom and dad deeply and her family finds comfort in knowing she is peacefully reunited with them once again. Her family and friends alike have all been fortunate to have had her in their lives, but so saddened that it wasn't long enough. She will be forever missed.

She is also survived by her children, Sin'Deara Harris of New Jersey; T'Quay Harris and Isaiah Crippen; and stepson, Terrell Patterson, all of Spring Brook Twp.; her sister, Cathy Pascolini and husband, David; her brother, Vincent Casella Jr. and wife, Lisa; her niece and godchild, Nina Pascolini; nephews, Vincent and Nicholas Casella, all of Old Forge; several aunts and cousins.

The funeral will be Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., in Old Forge.

Friends may call Sunday from 1 until services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, PA 18411. Visit www.kearneyfuneralhome.com for directions or to leave an online condolence.

Barb was our hygienist for more years than I am able to count! We are so very sorry for your loss. She was one of a kind and made our visits feel like we were catching up with a "friend", not just spending time in an office. May our heavenly Father grant all of you rest during this time.

I will miss Barb....her laugh, her complaints, her stories, her sarcastic humor. I'm only one of her patients and I'm having a hard time dealing with this.I can't imagine how much you all, as her family, will miss her. She spoke of her mother often...she is now with her. Goodbye Barb....it just won't be the same without you. A friend

Barb was my dental hygienist since my first trip to the dentist. She was one of the kindest and funniest women I know. She would have me cracking up even though it was hard to laugh while she was working. And I know everyone else had the same experience. It's hard to realize the gifts you have in your life until they're gone, but Barb really was a gift to anyone who knew her. I'm so sorry for her family's loss.

It's the little things, the small, everyday occurrences that you'll remember. The laughs, the stories, the smiles. And even though it seems like you can never recover from your loss, it is these very memories that will help push the pain away and bring back the smiles.
