Alice M. Calvert, 90, of Peckville, died Thursday at Commonwealth Hospice of NEPA at Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was the wife of Carl E. Calvert, who died Jan. 30, 2002.

Born in Archbald, daughter of the late John and Mary Alcock Welch, Alice graduated from Blakely High School. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Peckville and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the A. Pierson Hurd American Legion Post 236 in Peckville and the former Ladies Auxiliary of the Wilson Fire Company in Peckville. She was also a den mother for Cub Scout Pack 68. Before retirement, she worked at Automation Components in Peckville.

In recent years, her greatest pleasure was her weekly lunch with high school classmates, their spouses and old friends.

Surviving are a son, Dr. John F. Calvert and wife, Lynne, Belle Haven, Va.; a daughter, Jill Kandel Smith, Dublin, Ohio; two grandsons, Stephen Kandel and Steven Smith; a sister, Madelyn Bambace, White Plains, N.Y.; nieces, Janet Bambace, Ann Marie Stinchcomb and Linda Dirks; and nephews, Kenneth and Dale Calvert.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, John "Buddy" Welch Jr.; and sons-in-law, Dr. Michael Kandel and G. Bruce Smith.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service in celebration of Alice's life Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Robert E. Decker Funeral Home, Peckville, conducted by Monsignor Peter P. Madus. Interment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Peckville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Commonwealth Hospice of NEPA, 746 Jefferson Ave., Scranton, PA 18510.
