Andrew S. "Andy" Nowalk, 87, of Hop Bottom, died Tuesday at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore, after an extended illness. His wife of 56 years, Mary E. Crawford Nowalk, died in 2003.

Born in Scranton, to the late Frank and Julia Mayerchak Nowalk, Andy was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific. He retired from Bendix Corp. and was a constable for Hop Bottom. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Hop Bottom, and enjoyed gardening and fishing. Andy was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Toni Nowalk, Jessup; three daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and John Potter, Hop Bottom; Diane Nowalk, Hop Bottom; and Cindy and Scott Chidester, Kingsley; a sister, Kathy Miller, Linden, N.J.; nine brothers, Robert, Forked River, N.J.; George, Harrisburg; Willard, Binghamton, N.Y.; Frank, Edward, Jack and Richard, Greene, N.Y.; Russell, Springville; and Joe, Hop Bottom; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, a Janet; and two brothers, Donald and Carl.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kim Bode officiating. Interment, Westside Cemetery, Brooklyn, Pa.
