Angelina M. (Fasano) Ryan, 84, Clarks Summit, died Sunday at home. She was the wife of James Edmund Ryan. The couple would have celebrated its 57th wedding anniversary Oct. 12.
The Guest Book is expired.
Known to most friends and family as Lee, she was born June 28, 1929, in Altoona, and was the daughter of the late Angelo and Vincenza (Caso) Fasano. She was educated in New York City schools and a graduate of Walton High School in the Bronx, N.Y. After graduating, she worked for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in Manhattan for 12 years, where she met her husband, Jim. She and her family relocated to Clarks Summit in 1971.
Lee was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Parish, Clarks Summit, and for many years its Women's Guild. For more than 20 years, she was a familiar, smiling face at blood drives throughout the area as a volunteer with the American Red Cross, Abington Council Blood Bank, which she enjoyed immensely. While her children attended there, she was also a volunteer "lunch lady" at Our Lady of Peace Elementary School in Clarks Green.
While mostly devoting herself to family, friends and volunteer work, she enjoyed traveling, from vacations at the Jersey Shore to cruises and tours throughout the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean and Europe.
She is also survived by three beloved daughters, Lorraine Ryan and husband, Joseph Tufaro, Philadelphia; Angela Ryan Pope and husband, Allen, Tobyhanna; and Ellen Ryan Hoye and husband, Bernard, Skippack; two granddaughters, whom she adored, Virginia and Elizabeth Pope, Tobyhanna; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved and remembered on birthdays and other special occasions.
Lee was the youngest of 12 siblings and was preceded in death by six sisters, Rose Mele, Anna Bauchard, Carmella Copeland, Dorothy Fasano, Sue Miller and Virginia Giannini; and five brothers, Frank, Ralph, Anthony, Emory and Angelo.
The family would like to express its sincere and most heartfelt thanks to the staffs of Clarks Summit Senior Living, Traditional Hospice and Dr. Stephen Jaditz for all their excellent and compassionate care of their wife and mother.
The funeral will be Saturday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit, to be celebrated by Monsignor James J. McGarry. Interment will follow at Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp.
The family will receive relatives and friends Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Service Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Snows Parish Memorial Fund, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA 18411, or the American Red Cross, 545 Jefferson Ave., Scranton, PA 18510.
