Bernard John "Bernie" Donachie Sr., formerly of Apalachin, N.Y., died Nov. 5 at his home in Concord, N.C. His wife of 58 years is Theresa Helen O'Hara Donachie, formerly of Scranton.

Born on March 22, 1932, in Kingston, he was the third child of the seven children to the late Bernard Alloyseus and Ruth Kelly Donachie. Mr. Donachie graduated from Scranton Technical High School in 1949. He proudly served in the Navy from 1950-1952 on the USS Missouri BB-63, and the USS Pittsburgh CA-72. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He received his associate degree in business administration from Central Piedmont Community College.

He was a member of Holy Name Society at St. Margaret Mary Church, Knights of Columbus, Apalachin Lions Club, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bernie had retired from A&P Food Stores in 1976 and IBM Corp. in 1997.

Also surviving are his children, Mary Theresa Carpenter; Bernie Donachie II and wife, Anita; Jack Donachie and wife, Mary Ellen; and Cathleen Hester and husband, David; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ray, Robert, Gene and Charles; and his sisters, Ruth and Nancy.
