Bernard P. Filipski of the Providence section of Scranton died Thursday at the Commonwealth Hospice of NEPA Inpatient Unit at Regional Hospital of Scranton. His wife of 54 years is the former Delores Hughes.

Born in Peckville, he was the son of the late Edward and Veronica Verna Andulewicz Filipski. He was educated in Dickson City schools. Before his retirement, he was employed by National Book of Dunmore and he had previously worked at Sandone Tires. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Church, North Scranton, and most recently Mary, Mother of God Parish.
He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending to his garden, but the love of his life was his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are his children, Bernard and wife, Theresa, Charlotte, N.C.; Barbara and husband, Glenn Lesniak, Spring Brook Twp.; Michael and wife, Rose Marie, Scranton; John Paul and wife, Bonnie, Inkerman; and Sandra and husband, Edward Eckardt, Scranton; brothers, Edward T. Filipski, Dickson City; and James Filipski, Throop; 13 grandchildren, Erica and husband, Justin Burnes; Tara and husband, Tim Leber; Nicole, Christopher, Brittany, Jennifer, Michael, Sarah, Timothy James, Stephanie and Tabitha Filipski; and Brianna and Kyle Eckardt; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Francis; three infant sisters and an infant brother.
The funeral will be conducted on Monday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St., Scranton. All attending the funeral are to proceed directly to church. Entombment, St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum, Dickson City.
Friends may call Sunday, 3 to 7 p.m.
