Camden Rundell Obituary

Camden Kenneth Rundell of Newfield, N.Y., died during a robbery at his home on Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at the age of 30.

Camden was born in Elmira, N.Y., and was the son of Kimberly deCoudres, Trumansburg, N.Y., and Dr. Kenneth Rundell, Clarks Summit.

Camden attended Abington Heights High School. He enjoyed many wonderful years in Lake Placid, N.Y., kayaking on Mirror Lake, hiking the Adirondack mountains, camping on the Saranac lakes, fishing the Ausable river, jumping off the "flume" and countless other adventures. He learned to ski at Whiteface mountain from Olympian Joo-hee Kim. He accompanied his father on an official trip with the International Olympic Committee to Australia and spent two weeks touring the continent. Camden had a passion for dirt mountain bikes and designed and built numerous trails and jumps on the family property. He attended several camps at Camp Woodward and was voted best biker at Lake Placid High School.

Camden loved to cook. He was a valuable employee at many a restaurant. He then gravitated to landscaping and built a successful business in the Ithaca area. He proved to have a keen business sense and an excellent work ethic which became an asset in any endeavor he undertook.

Camden faced his challenges with grit and determination. He did not give up on his pursuit to be his best. His most transformative moment was when his daughter, Lucy – now 3 years old, was born. She was his pride and joy, and she meant everything to him.

Camden was a friend to many. Wherever he went he accumulated scores of buddies. He was quick witted and charming, and could always be counted on to lend a hand. Camden loved to get people together, attend concerts and host big barbecues.

Aside from his parents, Camden is survived by his daughter, Lucy, Ithaca, N.Y.; his stepmom, Beth Rundell; sister, Kira deCoudres; brothers, Thomas and Zack Rundell; maternal grandparents, David and Jacqueline Boyd; aunts and uncles, Mark and Terry Welch, and Jane and Ronald Edsall; cousins, Chelsea, Garrett, Brett, Ashley and Barbara; and two dogs, Sage and Draper. Camden was predeceased by beloved paternal grandparents, Kenneth H. and June Rundell.

The family will be present to receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today, Dec. 8, 2016, at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A memorial service will immediately follow at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks those that would like to make a contribution in Camden's memory to kindly consider donating to the Lucy June Education Fund, c/o Tompkins Trust Co., 2 Main St., Trumansburg, NY 14886. I didn't know Camden but I had Ms. DeCoudres as a teacher. She was a major reason I was able to graduate and one of the only teachers able to reach me and push me to do anything with my life when I was 16. I have no doubt that Camden was an amazing person and lived each day to make the world a better place just his Mother. There are never perfect words for these type of messages but just know I am praying for your ability to allow closure and embrace the healing process. Respectfully - Anthony P. DeFranco

I don't think there are words that express how I feel. Camden was a special young man, made obvious to me in grammar school. Know that his memory will live on in my heart. Please accept my deepest sympathy.
