Carol D. Pantle, 71, of Waverly, N.Y., died early Sunday morning at home.

Born in Scranton, the daughter of the late Harold and Grace Snyder Wheymeyer, she was a 1959 graduate of Scranton Technical High School and later in life was a 1982 graduate of Broome Community College. Until her retirement in 2005, she was a computer programmer for the USDA.
Children held a special place in her heart as she was a foster parent for more than 20 years.
Surviving are daughters, Virginia Pantle, Newark Valley, N.Y.; and Tammy Pantle, Waverly, N.Y.; sons, David Pantle, Candor, N.Y.; and Ted Pantle and his wife, Amy, Waverly, N.Y.; brothers, Harold and Carole; William and Carol; and August and Pat Wheymeyer; a brother-in-law, Tony Jankowski; a special foster son, Brian Porter and his wife, Danielle; as well as numerous other foster children, nieces, nephews, cousins and a grandson, Joshua Pantle.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis Loveland and her husband, James; and Valerie Jankowski.
The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Birch St., Scranton. Interment to follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Twp.
Viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 225 S. Main St., Athens.
