Christopher T. Bensley, 53, of Frederick, Md., formerly of Gouldsboro, died Saturday at Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville, Md.

Born in Morristown, N.J., he was the son of Jacques and Lillie "Pat" Brill Bensley of Gouldsboro. Chris graduated from Parsippany Hills High School and joined the Coast Guard, serving for seven years and obtaining the rank of boatswain's mate 3rd class. Following his honorable discharge from the Coast Guard, he joined and retired from the state National Guard as a sergeant. Chris was a past fire chief and life member of the Gouldsboro Volunteer Fire Company, and a past member of the Raritan Fire Department in New Jersey. He was also a member of the Wall-Sebring American Legion Post 274 in Gouldsboro. Chris was a proud organ donor, continuing his tradition of helping others, even after his death.
Chris is also survived by three children, Courtney, Caitlin and Christopher Bensley, all of Gouldsboro; a sister, Jacquelyn Bensley of Phoenix; brothers, Jeffrey of Gouldsboro; Timothy and wife, Julie, of Greenwich, Conn.; Jonathon of Parsippany, N.J.; Daniel and wife, Debra, of Big Pine Key, Fla.; and Patrick of Chesapeake, Va.; many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Douglas.
The funeral will be on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Gouldsboro United Methodist Church, Main Street, Gouldsboro, to be conducted by the Rev. Eric Luczak, pastor of Daleville/Maple Lake United Methodist Churches. Interment will follow in Lehigh Cemetery in Gouldsboro.
A viewing will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 3 First St., Spring Brook Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a fund to benefit Chris's children, c/o Penn Security Bank, 534 Main St., Gouldsboro, PA 18424.
