David K. Elmer, 57, of Mount Cobb, formerly of Dunmore, died New Year's Day at Regional Hospital of Scranton. His wife of 37 years is the former Deborah Schwenk.

Born in Bethesda, Md., he was the son of Alvin and Matilda Smith Elmer of Florida. He was of the Methodist faith and a veteran of the Marine Corps. A civil engineering graduate of Bucknell University, he was a bridge engineer with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for 29 years.

"Elmer" always enjoyed fishing trips with his family and playing golf. His kindness and thoughtfulness inspired him to be an organ donor, who has given the gift of life so that others may live. He will be deeply missed, but always fondly remembered by his family and friends.

He is also survived by a daughter, Joan Hannigan and husband, James, Ohio; a son, David Elmer Jr., Lafayette Hill; a sister, Teresa Jasny and husband, Tom, Texas; and two grandchildren, Brianna and Caeden Hannigan.

The funeral will be Saturday at noon with services in the Neil Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton, by the Rev. Arthur Davis, pastor at Asbury United Methodist Church, Scranton.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
