Debra M. Major, 60, of Jessup, died Saturday at Geisinger Community Medical Center as a result of injuries suffered in a tragic accident. She is survived by her loving husband of 11 years, Ted Major.

Debra was born on Aug. 3, 1952, in Peckville, daughter of the late Martin V. Sr. and Dorothy Wescott Hopkins. She was a 1970 graduate of Valley View High School and Penn State University. She was employed as the director of medical records at Mid-Valley Hospital, where she had worked for the past 35 years. She was also the secretary to all of the medical staff and secretary to the board of directors. She was a member of Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick's Church in Olyphant.
She was a kind and loving, wife, aunt, great-aunt and friend to many who will be greatly missed by all who knew her, including her fellow employees and work family. She always had a smile and kind word for everyone and always wanted to help others. She had recently received the honor of the Manager of the Year award from the Mid-Valley Hospital. Her gift of helping others will live on through her organ donation.
Surviving are her nieces, whom she thought of and loved as her own daughters, Jennifer and Danielle; a grandnephew, whom she considered her grandson and joy, Noah; also nieces, Annesa, Lucrezia and Chrissy; nephews, Blaise, Benjamin, Charles, Timothy, Matthew, Jesse, Chance, Paul and Dylan; aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Martin V. Hopkins Jr.; and nieces, Angel and Kaila.
The funeral will be Thursday with Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Parish, Olyphant, by the Rev. Thomas Major, brother-in-law. Anyone planning to attend the Mass is asked to go directly to the church. Interment, Union Dale Cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Robert E. Decker Funeral Home, 702 River St., Peckville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter.
