Edward A. Dembrosky, 89, of Throop, died Saturday afternoon at Elderwood Nursing Home, Waverly, N.Y. His wife, the former Rose Baransky, died Sept. 1, 2008.

A lifelong resident of Throop, son of the late Thomas E. and Mary Siepiela Mushinsky Dembrosky, he was educated in Throop schools and was employed by the maintenance department of Community Medical Center before retirement. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II, participating in the Battle of Iwo Jima and others.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was a devoted husband and father, and he truly was a gentleman.

Surviving are a son, Edward and wife, Joanna Dembrosky, Owego, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Amy Young and Sharon Clarke, both of North Carolina; a brother, Thomas Dembrosky Jr., California; and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. from the John F. Glinsky Funeral Home, 445 Sanderson St., Throop, with a blessing service by the Very Rev. William Chromey, pastor, St. Adalbert's Polish National Catholic Church, Dickson City. Interment will be private.
