Elaine A. Burne, 84, of Dunmore, died Saturday morning in Hospice Community Care, Dunmore. She and her husband, Francis R. "Fran" Burne, were married on Oct. 1, 1949, and had recently celebrated their 64th anniversary.

Born in Dunmore, daughter of the late Angelo and Catherine Morlino Verrastro, she was a graduate of Dunmore High School and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and its Altar and Rosary Society. In earlier years, she had been employed by the Household Finance Co. as well as in the offices of doctors Doherty, Curtin and Morgan.
Elaine was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who was known for her legendary cooking and baking.
Also surviving are a son, Brig. Gen. Christopher Burne and wife, Robin, Langley Air Force Base, Va.; grandsons, Christian and Connor Burne; a niece, Carol Verrastro; and nephews, Fran Calpin, Joseph Verrastro and Steve Verrastro.
She was also preceded in death by sisters, Christine Burris, Mae Calpin, Angie Foleno, Rose Dougherty and Florence Hannon; and brothers, Frank, Joseph, Gene, Robert, Andy and Ralph Verrastro.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., with Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Interment to follow in Dunmore Cemetery.
