Eleanore Tanis, Moosic, died Friday at Allied Services, Scranton. Her husband, John Tanis, died in 1993.
The Guest Book is expired.
She was born in Moosic and was the daughter of the late John and Mary Jane Birkbeck Tanis. She was a graduate of Moosic High School and a member of Moosic Presbyterian Church.
Eleanore was devoted to her Labrador retrievers, including Forrest, Daisy and King. She was instrumental in starting the Therapy Dog Program and Saints of Beersheba International Reformed Church, where she was its first treasurer and director. She doted on her dogs in every possible way and was assisted by Linda Longo and Linda's helpers. She was a supporter and member of the National Rifle Association and came from a family with a long history of hunting traditions, which she passed on to her sons and Steven Wexler, whom she cared for after Steve's mother died of cancer. Many were receivers of her compassion and she was a member of too many organizations to list. Her entire 89 years of life, she never forgot her love and affection for Moosic and its residents.
A special thanks to adopted daughter, Sue Arthur and family, for her continuous devotion and attention to our family.
Surviving are a son, the Rev. Dr. John Tanis III of Moosic; five grandchildren, Lisa Hatcher, Atlanta; John IV, Monroe Twp., N.J.; Jenna Tanis, Freehold, N.J.; David and Jessie Tanis, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren, Davis and Caroline Hatcher.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Dwight David Tanis; three brothers, Stewart, Leroy and Jack Young; and a sister, Marjorie.
