Elizabeth "Betty" Nolan, 78, of Carbondale, died Friday at the VNA Hospice at Geisinger Community Medical Center. She was the widow of Alfred Nolan, who died in 1992.

Born in Mayfield, daughter of the late Joseph and Pauline Caserta Talerico, she was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. A graduate of Mayfield High School, she was a homemaker who loved to spend time with her family, especially around the holidays.
The family would like to thank the staff at VNA Hospice for the excellent and compassionate care given to Betty.
Surviving are eight children, Deborah Wallace and husband, Donald, Thompson; Patrick Nolan, Forest City; Donna Vetrosky and husband, Scott, Allentown; Jean Spall and husband, Thomas, Carbondale; Kenneth Nolan, Carbondale; Mark Nolan and wife, Pamela, Carbondale; Brian Nolan, Carbondale; and Kimberly Vannatt, Honesdale; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Angelina Malar, Carbondale; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Alfred "Buck" Nolan III, in 1995; several brothers and sisters.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home Inc., 55 Lincoln Ave., Carbondale, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.
