Francesco "Frank" Leo of West Scranton died Wednesday at the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center. His wife is the former Carol Fayad, they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Oct. 19.

Born in Caltabellotta, Provincia Di Agrigento, Sicily, he was the son of the late Joseph and Accursia Pontini Leo. He immigrated to the United States in 1961 and settled in Scranton. Frank started his career in his new home working in the local garment industry. He also worked as a carpenter and a mason, but his passion was cooking; he was involved in the restaurant business for many years. He was a member of St. Ann's Basilica Parish and the Societa Sportiva Italiana.
An avid gardener, he enjoyed spending time in his garden, but most of all he liked spending time with his family and friends, especially his four grandchildren. He was looking forward to his soon-to-arrive granddaughter any day.
Also surviving are a daughter, Ann Cursina McCarthy and husband, Mike, Archbald; a son, Dr. Joseph Leo and wife, Krista, Scranton; four grandchildren, Michael, Marc and Rachel McCarthy and Francesco Leo; a brother, Acursio Leo, Scranton; two sisters, Frances DiNapoli and Lillian Leo, both of Scranton; several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Mariano "Mario" Leo; and a sister, Josephine Colletti.
The funeral will be Monday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Basilica Church, 1250 St. Ann's St. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
