Grace M. Burke, 83, a lifelong resident of Dunmore, died Monday at Linwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Robert J. Burke.

Born in Dunmore on Dec. 26, 1930, daughter of the late Gaetano and Giovanni Aliamo Amico, Grace was a graduate of Dunmore High School, class of 1948, and reveled in that milestone throughout her life. She particularly enjoyed the many reunions of the class, including the 65th in 2013.

Before retirement, Grace worked for the U.S. Department of Labor as a price data collector for the Consumer Price Index. Earlier, she was employed for lengthy periods in the insurance and medical fields.

She enjoyed travel with her husband, and toured the North American continent from Alaska to Key West and the Maritime Provinces of Canada to the deep American Southwest. She particularly enjoyed fall visits to Myrtle Beach, winter visits to Florida and an occasional visit to Atlantic City.

Grace was an excellent homemaker and a dedicated pet lover. She was a fastidious person who had a penchant for order and simplicity, and asked for nothing more than life had afforded her. She was a petite and engaging woman who quickly elicited the fondness of all she met.

Grace is also survived by a brother, Michael Gianti, Old Forge; and a sister, Margaret Esgro, Dunmore; several nieces and nephews; and many loving in-law relations.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Vincent Amico; and three sisters, Theresa Stevenson, Santa Amico and Rita Viola.

The family is grateful to the entire staff of Linwood for the love and care Grace received during the more than four years she was a resident there.

The funeral will be Tuesday with services at 9:30 a.m. by the Rev. Bernard McIlhenny, S.J., at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore. Interment, Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore.

Friends may call Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.
