Helen Grala, 86, of Old Forge, died Tuesday evening at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Grala, on March 12, 1990, after 43 years of marriage.

Born in Duryea, daughter of the late Michael and Mary Hayduk Vanko, she was a graduate of Duryea High School. She was formerly employed in the area garment industry. She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Scranton.
She was an avid gardener, loved to go to the casino and travel. She resided in Old Forge for most of her married life.
Surviving are four daughters, Ann M. Salamon and her husband, Michael, Spring Brook; Christine Vennarini and husband, Charles, Pittston Twp.; Theresa Holmes and husband, John, Santa Fe, N.M.; and Jeanne Robideau and husband, Kirk, Oswego, N.Y.; four grandsons, Michael Salamon and wife, Katie; Mark Salamon and wife, Jennifer; Charles Vennarini and girlfriend, Lisa Granahan; and Joseph Vennarini and wife, Debbie; eight great-grandchildren, Michael John, Connor, Matthew, Cora, Kade, Colette, Corin and Kieran; brother, John Vanko, Duryea; sister, Eleanor Guntkowski, Duryea; brother-in-law, Leo Dushko; godson, John Brojock; grandpuppy, Abby; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, George and Michael Vanko; and sisters, Anna Rupp, Margaret Brojock and Mary Dushko.
The funeral will be Saturday at 9:45 a.m. from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in Divine Mercy Parish, Scranton with the Rev. Francis L. Pauselli officiating. Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Duryea.
