Helen H. Kelly King of Scranton died Saturday in Mountain View Care Center. She was the widow of Martin Aloysius King Jr., who died Sept. 25, 2000.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Patrick J. and Veronica McHale Kelly, she was a member of St. Paul's Church. She was educated in Scranton public schools and was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and Lackawanna Business College. Before retirement, she was employed by Kelly's Market. Helen served as the Democratic Committeewoman for the 13th Ward, was a member of the Penn Ridge Club and co-founder of the quilting club.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who will be deeply missed.
Surviving are three sons, Martin King and wife, Kathleen, Conyngham; Patrick J. King and wife, JoAnn, Whitehaven; and Michael F. King, at home; three daughters, Mary E. King, Scranton; Helen M. Cook and husband, William J., Scranton; and Kelly King, Shavertown; a sister, Patricia Bunnell, Scranton; seven grandchildren, Martin A., Colleen and Katie King; Nora Scotch and husband, Kevin; Jeremy Cook and wife, Beth; Alison McHale and husband, Kevin; and Melissa Cook; seven great-grandchildren, Emily, Meghan and Erin Cook; Ethan and Noah Scotch; Caden and Connor McHale; a son-in-law, Victor Cognetti Sr., Scranton; nieces, nephews and cousins
She was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas King; a daughter, Nori King; a brother, Thomas P. Kelly; and a sister, Ann Morgan.
The funeral will be Thursday at 9 a.m. from the McGoff-Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1401 Capouse Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in St. Paul's Church, 1510 Penn Ave., Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Friends may call Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
