Helen Saltisiak of Simpson passed away peacefully in her sleep on Nov. 25, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was a patient at Hospice Community Care in Dunmore, Pa. She celebrated her 95th birthday in May 2013.

Born and raised in Richmondale, Pa., she was the seventh of eight children of Andrew and Theresa Dovin. She attended Fell Twp schools. She was married to Peter Saltisiak on Aug. 6, 1938, and had celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1988. Peter passed away 1991.
Helen is survived by her three children, Arline Hoal of Harford Twp., Pa.; Patricia McCarty of Orlando, Fla.; and Peter and Angela Saltisiak of Simpson, Pa. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Thomas A. Speicher Jr., Dr. Mary Gaspari, James and Robin Speicher; Patrick Speicher, Kevin and Kelly Speicher; Ann and Timothy Stiller; Greg and Sandra McCarty; Jeremy McCarty, Bryan and Karen McCarty; Todd and Kanako McCarty; Peter Saltisiak and Angela Saltisiak. She is also survived by 13 loving great-grandchildren, Kelsea Gaspari, Taylor Gaspari, Erika and Caralyne Speiche; Lauren, Justin and Jonah Speicher; Cael, Payne, Carter Speicher and Juliet Weinberg; Jordan, Collin and Nicolas McCarty; Mitchell and Sarah McCarty; and Rei McCarty; nieces and nephews.
Helen was also preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Michael, John, Joseph and Andrew Dovin; and sisters, Mary Shino, Anna Kranyak and Elizabeth Snyder.
Helen was a lifelong member of St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church, Forest City, and was passionate about her faith. She was also an accomplished seamstress and quilter, having worked in the garment industry. She loved to dance the polka and enjoyed making peroghi and holubki for her family. She was also a member of the mothers & daughters club at the church.
A funeral Mass will take place on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church, Susquehanna Street, Forest City, with a burial service to follow at St. John's Cemetery in Richmondale.
A viewing will be held on Friday at Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson, from 4 to 7 p.m. Parastas will be at 4.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Celtic Healthcare/Hospice Commu nity Care in Dunmore, PA.
