Henry Sheridan Obituary

Henry J. Sheridan, 86, of the Nativity section of Scranton, died Monday in Community Medical Center.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late William J. and Anna Riley Sheridan. He was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Church, now St. John Neumann Parish. He was a member of Nativity School's first graduating class, was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and attended Lackawanna College and Purdue University. Before retirement, he was employed for 35 years as a supervisor with PPL Co. in the Scranton division.

In earlier years, he formed Boy Scout Troop 43 and had more than 25 Eagle Scouts. He was past president of Nativity's Holy Name Society, commander of Catholic War Vets, was a third-degree Knight of Columbus and was a member of PPL Retirement Club. He was a Navy Air veteran of World War II and one of the last surviving employees of the former Laurel Line Railroad.

Surviving are a sister, Joan O'Hara, Scranton; nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Marie "Nan" Spencer, and two brothers, James and Robert Sheridan.

The funeral will be Friday at 9 a.m. from the August J. Haas Funeral Home Inc., 202 Pittston Ave., with Mass at 9:30 in Nativity of Our Lord Church, to be celebrated by the Rev. Michael Bryant, pastor. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.

Henry always treated me like family. I was honored to have known him. He was kind and generous. I will never forget how excited I was when he asked me if I wanted to go to the lake with him to see Sandy. Thank you, Henry.
