Hoang Gia Nguyen "Chico" passed into eternal life on Aug. 11, 2013, at Regional Hospital of Scranton Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Vinh Hoa, Nghi-An of Vietnam, he eventually made his way to Peckville, Pa., where he resided with his wife of 22 years, Lori Ruane Nguyen, and their two daughters, Jessica and Jennifer Nguyen.

Hoang was one of 12 children born to the late Nguyen Y and Le Thi Lai. He is survived by three brothers, Ba Hong, Tung Dinh and Hau The Nguyen in Vietnam; four sisters in Vietnam, Kinh Thi, An Thi, Hung The and Lanh Thi; and sisters, Tam Thi, South Carolina; and Nhan Thi, Lousianna.

He was also preceded in death by brothers, Vinh The and Thi Duc. Hoang is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was a graduate of the University of Scranton and also studied at St. Pius X Seminary. Hoang was employed by TR Associates for 26 years. Hoang enjoyed his family and was a Valley Youth United Soccer coach for many years. He was also active with Valley View Softball. He was proud of his daughters. He had a talent for gardening and enjoyed his time outdoors. Hoang loved to cook his native Asian cuisine. He enjoyed family vacation trips and excursions to professional soccer games.

The funeral will be Friday at 8:30 a.m. from the Harrison Funeral Home, 374 Main St., Archbald, with Mass at 9 in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Willow Street, Peckville, to be celebrated by Monsignor Peter Madus, pastor. Interment in St. John's Cemetery, Jessup.

Friends may call Thursday, 4 to 7 p.m.
