James D. Benjamin, 79, of Taylor, died Monday in the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton following an illness.

Born May 25, 1935, in Scranton, son of the late Elmer L. and Matilda (Wheeler) Benjamin, he was a graduate of Marywood School of Nursing. He was a self-employed contractor and handyman.

He had a great love for music and dancing.

He is survived by three daughters, Cecilia Wilde, Carbondale; Brenda Benjamin, Forest City; and Debra London, Taylor; a son, Wayne Benjamin, Old Forge; six grandchildren, Carina Sokolov, James London, John Jenisky Jr., Brianna Krzan, Paul Krzan Jr. and Brandon Eddy; and four great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his companion, Ceil Smith; a son, James D. Benjamin Jr.; three brothers, Robert, Seymore and Charles; and three sisters, Helen, Hazel and Gertrude.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Twp., with the Rev. Arthur W. Davis as officiating clergy. Arrangements are by the Howard J. Snowdon Funeral Home of Scranton.
