Jean Sponsler Beattys of Blakely died Tuesday night at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore. Her husband of 64 years, A. Howard Beattys, preceded her in death on May 5, 2009.

Born in Blakely, daughter of the late Gordon and Ethel Hopkins Sponsler, she was a graduate of Blakely High School. Before retiring, she was employed by J.C. Penney Co., Dover, N.J. She was a member of the Blakely Baptist Church, its choir and Mission Belles.

Surviving are a son, Dale and wife, Dr. Candice Beattys, East Brunswick, N.J.; a daughter, Sheryl Krakowski, Landing, N.J.; three grandchildren, Amy Patrey, Robin and Chris Beattys; two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Andrew Patrey; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Krakowski; and a brother, Edward Sponsler.

The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Hedley W. Mason Funeral Home, 436 Main St., Peckville, with services by the Rev. Wallace Koch, pastor of the Blakely Baptist Church. Interment, Prospect Hill Cemetery, Peckville. Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre, 18702; or Blakely Baptist Church, 210 Main St., Blakely, PA 18447.
