Jean McAndrew Obituary

Jean L. McAndrew of Taylor died Wednesday at Geisinger Community Medical Center. Her first husband, James Martin, died in June 1954, and her second husband, Joseph McAndrew, died in January 1998.

Born in Taylor, daughter of the late Benjamin and MaryAnn Price Llewelyn, she was a graduate of Taylor High School. Jean went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree at Syracuse University, master's degree in nursing at Yale University, attended University of Chicago and received her master's degree in rehabilitation counseling from the University of Scranton. For many years, she was the director of nursing at Hahnemann Hospital in Scranton and retired from her position as assistant director at the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation in Wilkes-Barre. She had served in the Navy as a nurse with the rank of ensign during World War II. She was a member of Divine Marcy Parish. Jean enjoyed swimming and playing cards with her friends. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family.

Surviving are three sons, James Martin Jr., Wilkes-Barre; Michael Martin, Jenson Beach, Fla.; and Dr. Scott Martin, Westwood, Mass.; a daughter, Joanne Gabriel, Taylor; nine grandchildren, Kaitlin and Amy Gabriel, Mara Martin, Kerri Guion, Scott Joseph, Alysa, Tanya, C.J. and Nicholas Martin; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Dowling and Elizabeth VonBergen.

The funeral will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the Jacob Davis Funeral Home, 422 S. Main St., Taylor, with services by the Rev. Francis Pauselli, pastor of Divine Mercy Parish, Scranton. Interment will be at Abington Hills Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
